Martina received a BS Applied Psychology (1990) and a Research Doctorate in Forensic Psychology in 1996 (UCC), subsequently working as a lecturer in Forensic and Abnormal Psychology at the University of North London. She has over fifteen years’ experience of working with a forensic client base, having joined the Prison and Probation Services in London. While working at HMP Wormwood Scrubs was the assigned psychologist to the Health Care wing of the prison. Here she provided Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for a wide range of Mental Health issues. Her work with the Probation Services included assessment and the provision of individually tailored therapeutic programmer’s for adolescents and adults with mental health and behavioural needs.

Having returned to live in Cork, Martina continued to do consultancy work for the Prison and Probation Services in London and also lectured full time (2 years) and subsequently part-time in UCC.Martina began working for Fresh Start in September 2009, working with clients in both the Munster and Leinster regions. Fresh Start, a specialist child care company promoting safety and care of children and young people who have presented to the Health Services Executive with significant behavioural challenges.

Martina has extensive experience in practice with children and adults,. As a Psychologist with Imagine Health and Fresh Start, She gained extensive experience in dealing with complex clinical presentations, including aggravated grief reactions, Post Dramatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and severe depression. She also has experience in treating survivors of sexual and physical trauma, and working with children and adolescents with attachment disorders.

Martina has specialist training in the field of addictions and worked for The Ana Liffey Drug Project in Portlaoise for over three years. Her therapeutic interests include CBT, ACT family therapy and solution focused therapy.

She has extensive experience in training and education, acted as Module Covenor for the MA in Forensic Psychology in UCC. She has acted as a Supervising Psychologist in clinical and forensic practice. Martina worked in Mallow Primary Health Care Centre for two years and worked in The Cedar Clinic primary health Centre since 2011. She is a Registered Psychologist and a Full Member of Psychological Society of Ireland. She is also a chartered Forensic Psychologist with the British Psychological Association.
